San
Antonio
hosted
the
Sustainable
Energy
Workshop
2011
on
July
12
at
The
Pearl
Stable
in
San
Antonio
Texas.
There
were
over
160
attendees.
This
year’s
workshop
featured
presentations
by
Brig
Gen
Leonard
Patrick,
the
Commander
of
JBSA,
and
JBSA
energy
managers
from
its
components
at
Lackland
AFB,
Randolph
AFB,
and
Ft.
Sam
Houston.
The
workshop
highlighted
recent
work
by
the
DOD
Strategic
Management
and
Performance
Office
of
the
Pentagon
on
an
Operational
Energy
Management
Plan,
which
reviews
projects
and
priorities
of
JBSA
energy
efforts
and
an
operational
score
card
system.
Based
upon
JBSA
priorities,
the
afternoon
presentations
focused
on
JBSA
requirements
and
initiatives
in
Energy
Management
and
Control
Systems.
Technical
presentations
by
the
Texas
Engineering
Experiment
Station
and
UTSA
covered
R&D
projects
on
smart
grid
technologies
and
applications.
Presentations
were
also
made
by
corporate
participants
including
Siemens,
Schneider
Electric,
SAIC,
and
others.
CPS
Energy
reviewed
their
initiatives
in
EMCS
and
partnership
opportunities
with
JBSA.
DTI
outlined
the
formation
of
the
JBSA
Energy
Innovation
Center
and
the
objectives,
activities
of
the
Center,
collaborative
partnerships
and
a
new
web
site,

Energy
Workshop
The
Defense
Transformation
Institute
(DTI)
hosted
a
workshop
to
assist
Joint
Base
San
Antonio
(JBSA)
in
securing
its
energy
future.
JBSA
is
committed
to
using
alternative
and
sustainable
sources
of
energy
to
comply
with
Presidential
mandates
and
the
Air
Forces'
Energy
Plan.
Achieving
this
goal
will
require
collaborative
innovation
between
the
community
and
the
military.
Joint
Base
San
Antonio
is
the
largest
military
installation
in
the
US
Department
of
Defense.
Supporting
73,000
DoD
personnel,
250
tenant
and
support
organizations,
150,000
students
per
year,
and
55,000
acres,
and
with
a
plant
value
greater
than
$10.3
billion,
JBSA
will
consume
an
estimated
$100
million
in
energy
each
year.
